10 Sexy Hottest Actresses Who Will Dominate 2014
As James Brown memorably hollered: “it’s a man’s world, but it don’t mean nothing without a woman or a girl.” This is especially true in the cinematic world; female roles have become stronger and stronger in recent years, and Hollywood is currently awash with talented actresses who continue to light up the screen. And it certainly helps that most of them are absolutely stunning in the looks department, too.
When I originally conceived this piece, it was to be a straightforward “sexiest women in cinema” article, but – in an attempt to be slightly less misogynistic – I compiled a list of women at the top of their game who have either dominated cinema this year or are set to do so in 2014. The fact that they are all very beautiful is merely a coincidence, though it’s certainly a happy one.
As a nod to the previously considered list, I’ve ranked them in order of personal preference. Anyone who’s ever doubted my appreciation of redheads will be surprised to find at least four on the list, but hey – it’s all about individual taste, isn’t it?
I’ve stuck strictly to 10 actresses who I thought were brilliant in the past couple of years, or are about to become even bigger in 2014. Therefore there is no room for women who traditionally make Hot Lists, such as Rihanna- Battleship was irredeemably terrible, after all. If I’ve missed anybody more deserving, or you simply want to mock my taste, feel free to join in on the comments thread at the end of the article.
The 27-year-old American first shot to our attention in the Transformers franchise, and has been burning up the screen ever since. Sultry, slinky and with the most sensuous lips in Hollywood – Angelina Jolie included – Fox gave one franchise that was normally the sole reserve of children and the unashamedly geeky a much needed shot of sexuality, and is about to do the same for another. This promises to be good news for all those dads who find themselves dragged out to the cinema to appease their children.
Fox is no stranger to comic book adaptations – she produced a typically sizzling turn as Lilah in Jonah Hex and is well-suited to playing a pouting, gritty type of gal. It may have been these qualities that the producers of the forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adaptation had in mind when they approached Fox with the intention of having her play ace reporter April O’Neil in the comic book flick.

2013 has been a quiet year for Fox, as she is expecting her second child. She has only followed on from her turn in last year’s comedy hit This Is 40 with a cameo in an advert for the new Call of Duty: Ghosts game. Still, next year promises to be much bigger, with the return of the Turtles set to dent the Summer market.
9. Emma Stone
The husky-voiced Arizonan has had a fantastic couple of years (despite being involved with the awful Movie 43), with roles in Friends With Benefits, Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Croods. However, there are two parts the redhead will be instantly identified with in the immediate future: Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man and Grace Faraday in Gangster Squad.

Stone has come a long way since her breakthrough in 2007′s Superbad. Her turn as the femme fatale character in Gangster Squad earned her rave reviews and proved that she is capable of playing more adult, sexier roles. She more than matched Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling, both of whom she spent a lot of screen time as the centre of a love triangle between the former’s characters, and looks set to see her career hit new heights as the lead opposite Colin Firth in next year’s Magic In The Moonlight, written and directed by Woody Allen.
Next year will also see Stone reprising her role as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While presumably hoping for a meatier role than in the first film, she will consolidate her position as comic book fans girlfriend of choice. 2012 and 2013 have both seen Stone’s career hurtle forward – 2014 may be the year it goes stellar.
8. Emma Watson
8. Emma Watson
Regularly troubling the echelons of Sexiest Female polls in movie magazines and newspapers, it would seem that Emma Watson has had no problem shaking off her image of a child star in the Harry Potter series. A natural beauty who has modelled for Burberry, she has managed to make the transition with a grace and dignity that others in the same scenario have lacked: take note, Miley “Twerking” Cyrus.
It is probably these qualities that have seen Watson offered, or linked with, roles in the live action Cinderella adaptation and – at the opposite end of the spectrum – Fifty Shades Of Grey. Presumably she is still seen as innocent but corruptible; in a wise move, she turned down the lead role in the latter. The Paris-born, Oxfordshire raised 23-year-old has more than enough work lined up to consolidate a busy past few years however, following on from well-received roles in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and 2013′s The Bling Ring.
Next year will see her appear in Guillermo del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast, as well as taking the role of Ila in Biblical epic Noah. Both roles are big enough to catapult Watson to the fringes of the A-List – or certainly far enough from the halls of Hogwarts to bode well for the next few years. While sex undoubtedly still sells in Hollywood, Watson’s success is proof that natural beauty and reservoirs of talent can get you there, too, without compromising your classy demeanour.
7. Isla Fisher
Can it really be 20 years since Isla Fisher shot to fame as Shannon Reed in turgid Australian soap Home and Away? The half-Scottish, Oman-born Aussie has been in the public eye since 1994, and has barely seemed to age in the past 10 years or so. The petit, perky redhead has steered admirably clear of the traditional career trajectory of an ex-soap star who specialises in rom-coms. Since the passable Confessions of a Shopaholic, Mrs. Sacha Baron Cohen has selected her roles wisely.

Since concentrating on voice work in Rango and Rise of the Guardians, Fisher returned to the big screen properly this year with roles in Now You See Me and Baz Luhrmann’s excellent adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Both films were a relative success, with the magician thriller spawning a sequel (due out in 2014).
This year also saw Fisher return to small screen matters with a recurring role in the fourth series of the critically-acclaimed Arrested Development on Netflix. Now nearing 38, it seems that Fisher has learned to pick out roles that will lend her some longevity and critical acceptance in a competitive market. Smart, beautiful and with great taste in sitcoms… what’s not to love?
6. Amy Adams
6. Amy Adams
Having been nominated for four Oscars, four Golden Globes and three BAFTAs so far in her career, it would be fair to say that the rise of Amy Adams has been unstoppable in the past decade. This year and the next two should see her fully conquer Hollywood, with her role as Lois Lane meaning that she is leading up to what could be the biggest superhero film of all time: Batman Vs. Superman.
Adams first came to the attention of gentlemen everywhere as the cute-as-a-button Giselle in Disney flick Enchanted in 2007, and roles in the sequel to Night At The Museum and The Muppets followed in the next few years; Adams was capable of playing more than cutesy to get our attention, though, with fantastically gritty parts in The Fighter and The Master, bringing much praise from both critics and The Academy, with talk of her being the best actress of her generation following.
Adams, undeniably beautiful and talented, is going to be a massive presence in the Hollywood Hills for quite some time yet. Blessed with a magnificently diverse range and with a genuine screen aura, she is next appearing in Spike Jonze’s Her and Steve Martin’s Object of Beauty, before reprising her role as the woman in The Man Of Steel’s life. Superman: he’s one lucky alien guy…
5. Scarlett Johansson
5. Scarlett Johansson
Widely acknowledged as one of Hollywood’s modern female sex symbols, Scarlett Johansson was arguably more famous for her astonishing looks until recent years, when her career began to catch up. Certainly Woody Allen was bewitched , declaring it impossible to be around a woman who was sexually confident, beautiful and wittier than he. While it’s not unlike Woody Allen to become flustered easily, you can certainly see his point – Johansson simply oozes sexuality.
Following an early success in Nolan’s The Prestige, Johansson took on roles in numerous poorly received films, such as The Other Boleyn Girl and He’s Just Not That Into You and it looked as if her early flushes of success were to be a flash in the pan. Luckily for her and hordes of admiring male cinema fans, Emily Blunt turned down the role of The Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and Johansson had a way into the massively successful Marvel franchise. She reprised the role in The Avengers, and will again in next year’s Captain America sequel.
While it is easy to be bewitched by Johansson’s looks, it would be unfair to overlook her sizeable talent. She was great as Janet Leigh in the drama about the filming of Psycho, Hitchcock, and was well received as Margaret in a theatrical run of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof last year.
4. Anne Hathaway
4. Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway has been in the collective consciousness of moviegoers since the double-whammy of The Devil Wears Prada and Brokeback Mountain in the mid 2000s, but 2013 has been the year when her career received the ultimate accolade. As tragic heroine Fantine in Les Miserables, Hathaway not only hit the charts with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream, but scooped the Best Supporting Actress award at the Academy Awards in February.
Hathaway, like Scarlett Johansson before her, always seemed to be celebrated more for her stunning looks than for her talent, regularly appearing in Top Sexiest Women lists and being named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2006. While she is classically beautiful, this is more than a bit unfair. Hathaway was uniformly excellent in her earlier roles, Brokeback Mountain being a great example, and she threatened to steal the entire show as Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises – and not just for her leather catsuit.
2014 may be a quiet year for Hathaway, with only a voice role in Rio 2 confirmed as of yet, but she will be appearing opposite Matthew McConaughey in Nolan’s Interstellar later in the year. Those who can’t wait may have to break out The Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray to keep her fresh in their minds.
3. Mila Kunis
3. Mila Kunis
The voice of Meg Griffin, the looks of a Greek goddess… Mila Kunis has arguably hit the Hollywood A-List in the past couple of years. Her earlier film work saw her play a number of roles based around the variation of a ‘perfect girlfriend’ type of character, before her memorable part in Black Swan grabbed our attention and that of critics and producers.
There is much more to Kunis than her husky voice, smoky eyes and textbook figure – a lot of men find her ‘take no BS’ attitude sexy, with the Soviet-born actor coming across as appealingly honest and self-deprecating in interviews. She has had a lot of promo work to do in the past year or so, with Ted being a worldwide smash hit and Oz: The Great And Powerful raising her profile as a leading actress.
2014 will be another year in which Kunis is prominent in our minds: she will be starring in the Wachowski’s latest sci-fi, Jupiter Ascending, and the new Liam Neeson vehicle, Third Person. The more and more that we see of Mila, the fairer it is to ask the question: “Macaulay Culkin, what the hell where you thinking?”
2. Jennifer Lawrence
2. Jennifer Lawrence
The face of Dior, one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, and an Oscar-winning actress, all at the age of 23. There’s no escaping how huge and hot Jennifer Lawrence is at the minute, a state of affairs that has existed since the release of the first Hunger Games film and – incredibly – she may be about to go supernova next year with the release of the sequel in the imminent future.
Lawrence is simply remarkable on the big screen. As you stare into those mesmerising eyes, you are captivated by her vulnerability, then swept away by her sultriness, sexiness and a large dose of humour and sparkiness. This is all made apparent within one film, Silver Linings Playbook, for which she won the Oscar. Such a performance bodes well for a sustained future in film, with heavyweight roles being lined up for the Kentuckian already.
Lawrence has one more Hunger Games film to go after the imminent Catching Fire, and will also be reprising her role as Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past next year, cornering the market in female action stars. She will also appear opposite Christian Bale and Brad Cooper in American Hustle, as well as well as filming East of Eden, the novel which was previously adapted and achieved immortality for James Dean. Lawrence, to the delight of admirers everywhere, is going to be inescapable for the foreseeable future.
1. Karen Gillan
1. Karen Gillan
You may think Karen Gillan an odd choice for the title of the hottest woman in cinema, given that 2013 saw her appear only in the low-budget Scottish independent, Not Another Happy Ending but – hey – it’s my list and Gillan is, in my opinion, the most beautiful woman in film at the moment: it depends on your interpretation of the word ‘hot’, I suppose.
Gillan will be instantly recognisable, of course, to sci-fi fans through her role as the Eleventh Doctor’s companion in Doctor Who, Amy Pond. With her long legs, red hair and quirky and pouty manner, Who viewers fell in love with Gillan, and her exit near the end of the 7th series left sci-fi fans wondering where they would glimpse her again. Enter stage right, at the San Diego Comic-Con in July, a newly-bald Gillan to announce her role in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The role of Nebula in the Marvel adaptation should be Gillan’s big breakthrough in Hollywood. Marvel equals big bucks at the minute, and playing the lead female villain in a movie alongside Glenn Close, Bradley Cooper, Benicio Del Toro and Vin Diesel should see the Scot’s profile shoot through the roof. If not, then she is one of the few women alongside Natalie Portman who can pull off the bald look. Gillan may possibly consolidate her success with the lead in supernatural horror Oculus, also due next year.
